There is a decent variety of accommodation in Camiguin although it doesn’t quite have the quantity of upmarket resorts as destinations such as Cebu or Boracay. There is plenty of choice for budget travellers and flashpackers in areas such as Mambajao and Balbagon, with competition generally ensuring excellent value.
At the bottom end of Camiguin hotels you can expect simply furnished tiled fan bungalows with ensuite bathrooms and a limited choice of dormitory rooms starting at just Php200 per person. Midrange comforts invariably include TV, air conditioning and the use of a swimming pool for under Php1,200 a night.
The northern coast has a good selection of beachfront accommodation in sizeable Camiguin resorts and smaller family run compounds although you can pay a premium for an uninterrupted ocean view, often as much as 50 percent more. You will also find several dedicated dive resorts offering cheap offseason ‘dive and stay’ packages. As a general rule these larger properties are the only places that accept credit or debit cards, but homestays will generally take cash in most major currencies.
Island capital Mambajao offers an ideal base and good transport links to explore the island in detail, yet is just minutes from the beach.
