Mactan Island boasts many luxury resorts
There is no shortage of places to stay in Cebu and prices are generally good value for Southeast Asian standards despite its hype and popularity. The highest concentration of hotels are to be find in downtown Cebu City and the tourist enclaves around Mactan Island, Lapu Lapu and Malapascua Island. In these particular areas, bottom-end budget accommodation is in short supply although there is plenty of lower mid-range places which are well worth the extra few pesos.
Mactan Island is a magnet for families looking for the quintessential tropical beach holiday with comfortable four star facilities, lots of amenities and sea views. It has the best choice of top quality beach resorts and some are real beauties – among the finest in the Philippines.
Cebu’s best value beach accommodation can be found in Panagsama Beach and Moalboal where it is possible to get a decent quality sea view cottage for around PHP1,000 a night. Similar properties can be found in Cebu City however they tend to have less character and are more geared towards business travelers.
Most areas, with the exception of more upmarket Mactan, have a good choice of large mid range hotels and motel rooms at similar prices and you can expect facilities such as restaurant/bar, onsite swimming pool and perhaps a gym or spa.
